Shearing a Sheep 101
Learn How to  Shear Yourself!

We began raising sheep over 25 years ago when our son was in 4-H.  We knew nothing about sheep, their care, or how to be successful as shepherds.  We had no idea of the path that lay before us.  And our learning curve was VERY steep.  Now, 25 years later, we have raised 4 children and numerous 4-H and FFA kids with our sheep and lambs, and over and over we are asked by beginners the same questions.

The foremost question over the years has been:   How do I shear my sheep?

Our answer is to enroll in the online course:

"How to Shear a Sheep 101"

More and more, commercial shearing is not available to the small sheep flock owner.  Or if it is, the shearer emphasizes how fast they work, not how well.  Is the wool going to be clean enough to spin or will it be full of straw from the floor? Will it be filled with second cuts (so common when speed it important)?  Will your sheep be cut up by the clippers?  Do you just want to doit all from start to finish and feel the pride of knowing that you were there every step of the way?

We have designed this course especially for the beginning shepherd who is faced for the first time with how to shear their sheep.  You will learn how to set up for shearing to protect your precious wool, what kinds of equipment are necessary, including clippers, cutters and combs, the oil to use as lubrication, and how to care for clippers so that they will provide years of service.  A detailed section shows how to clip a sheep and the positions that the sheep must be held in so that the skin is stretched properly to minimize cuts and maximize the staple length with few second cuts.  Diagrams and photos demonstrate exactly what to do. The "sheep stand method" is also illustrated.

Do I need electric clippers?  Can I use hand shears? Where do I start? What is skirting a fleece?  Learn all of this and more in How to Shear a Sheep 101.  Included free: instructions on how to trim sheep feet!
